OXFORD, Ohio - After leading each of their respective teams to a win over the holidays in their only game last week, senior guard Maggie Boyer and sophomore guard Quinten Rollins have been named Miami Female and Male Athlete of the Week, respectively, Tuesday for the week of Dec. 26-Jan. 1. Boyer earns the honor for the second straight week and second time this year while Rollins captured it for the first time.
Boyer (Lebanon, Ind.) had a strong game in Miami’s only action last week, a 74-60 victory over Chicago State on Wednesday. She scored a season-high 22 points on 9-for-14 shooting to lead the RedHawks, including four three-pointers. In addition, she contributed four rebounds, including two on the offensive glass, an assist and a steal in the win.
Rollins (Wilmington, Ohio) paced Miami in a 73-69 win over William & Mary on Thursday by scoring a career-high 18 points, which tied for team-high honors. He was 6-for-12 from the field, including nailing his only three-point attempt of the night. He was also 5-for-6 from the charity stripe, pulled down four rebounds, dished out three assists and had a pair of steals in 39 minutes of action, which tied a career high.
Both players have already competed again this week as Boyer had nine points in a win at Robert Morris Monday while Rollins totaled five points in a loss at Vanderbilt Monday. Boyer has two more games this week as the RedHawks begin Mid-American Conference play Wednesday at Akron before hosting Buffalo Saturday as part of a basketball doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m. Rollins is back in action Saturday as well as Miami hosts Akron at 7 p.m. in the second half of the doubleheader.
