OXFORD, Ohio - Competing for the first time this season, sophomore first baseman Allie Larrabee has been named Miami Female Athlete of the Week while senior goaltender Cody Reichard earned Male Athlete of the Week for his efforts off the ice. The honor is Larrabee's first this year while Reichard has now won Male Athlete of the Week twice this year.
Larrabee (Chicago, Ill.) was Miami's top hitter for the opening week of the season, going 6-for-9 (.667) at the plate. She earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team as she led the RedHawks to a 3-1 record at the Kennesaw State Classic. She also was tied for the team lead in slugging percentage at .889 after recording two doubles on the week. Her on-base percentage was .750, also earning a pair of walks. Against Austin Peay on Saturday, Larrabee was 3-for-4 with two RBI. She then went 2-for-3 in the win over Mercer on Sunday. Larrabee did not strike out the entire weekend.
Reichard (Celina, Ohio) made 14 saves while allowing just one goal in Saturday's 4-1 win over Alabama-Huntsville. With the victory, he earned his eighth win in net this year and 52nd of his career. His real achievement was off the ice however, as he was recognized prior to the game for being a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award, given to college hockey's finest citizen. He was presented a check for Swoop's Stoop, the charity Reichard founded entering his junior year, by the Hockey Humanitarian Foundation on Swoop's Stoop Night. As part of the night, the team wore special Swoop's Stoop jerseys that will be auctioned off to raise money for Reichard's program, which helps children at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Several kids from the hospital and their families were also given a suite for the game and were recognized during the contest.
Larrabee and the softball team are off this weekend but return to the field Feb. 24-26 in Memphis, Tenn. at the Blues City Classic. Reichard and the hockey team are back on the ice this weekend, hosting No. 13/13 Notre Dame in a two-game CCHA series at Steve Cady Arena.
