OXFORD, Ohio - After each set personal-best marks last week, senior middle distance runner Kelley Miller and junior golfer Ben Peacock have been selected as the Miami Female and Male Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 19-25. This is the first such honor for each athlete this year.
Miller (Dublin, Ohio) had a stellar outing last Saturday at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational, after missing indoor season due to expired eligibility. In her first meet of the year, she broke her own school record in the 1500m run, clocking 4:24.71, smashing her previous mark of 4:26.39. She finished second in the race in a field of 47, just a second behind the winner, Vanderbilt’s Kristen Findley. Her time is tops in the MAC this year (eight seconds better than anyone else) and ranks 15th nationally. She was also the runner-up in the 800m run in 2:15.57 in a field of 50. She was just a second and a half behind the race’s winner.
Peacock (Marshall, Mich.) had strong performances in two tournaments last week. He shot a six-under-par 210 to finish in a tie for fourth place at the Rio Pinar Invitational March 18-19. It was the best finish of his career. He shot 71-71-68 during his three rounds. The two 71 rounds tied his previous career low, while the 68 in the final round shattered that career mark. For that performance he was named MAC Men’s Golfer of the Week. At the FAU Spring Break Classic, March 23-25, Peacock shot a seven-over-par (73-70-77) 220 with a second-round 70 that was the second lowest round of his career. He finished in a tie for 40th.
Miller returns to the track this weekend at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, hosted by the University of Cincinnati, March 30-31. Peacock is off until the golf team travels to Penn State for The Rutherford April 7-8.
