OXFORD, Ohio -- Steve Baker takes over as the "Voice of the RedHawks," becoming Miami University Athletic Department's Director of Broadcasting, Director of Athletics Joel Maturi announced today. Baker served as Miami's play-by-play announcer for a decade from the mid-1980's to 1997 and returns to the airwaves this season.

"It is a great pleasure to have Steve return as our play-by-play announcer and assume broadcasting director duties for our department," says Maturi. "Being a broadcaster in the Oxford area and formerly with Miami Athletics, we are thrilled to welcome him back to the Miami Family. His prior work with our coaches and staff on our radio network will make this an easy transition for all involved."

"I am absolutely thrilled to be back doing Miami athletic broadcasts," says Baker. "I would like to thank Joel and Miami for the opportunity to return to do something I love, which is broadcasting Miami football and basketball. I also want to express my appreciation to Doug and Linda Balogh of WOXY for the flexibility they are allowing me at the station so I could accept this position."

Steve Baker and the Miami Sports Network kick off their season of broadcasts at 7 p.m. Aug. 23 with the first of 24 editions of `HawkTalk, a weekly call-in radio show dedicated to Miami Athletics.
