OXFORD, Ohio - With the start of a new school year, Miami Athletics will be naming a Male and Female Athlete of the Week each Tuesday throughout the 2011-12 athletic season. With women’s soccer beginning the Miami Athletics calendar last weekend, sophomore forward Katy Dolesh has been tabbed Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week of Aug. 15-21. Since no men’s sports competed, there is not a Male Athlete of the Week this week.
In addition to being Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week, Dolesh (South Euclid, Ohio) earned Mid-American Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Dolesh led Miami to a 2-0-0 start on the season as she totaled seven points in the two victories, with three goals and an assist.
Dolesh scored two goals in Friday’s 4-0 season-opening win over IUPUI, which marked just her second career multi-goal game. Dolesh then added a goal and an assist in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Morehead State, as she assisted on the game-winning goal while converting a penalty kick for her goal. She scored on three of her five shots over the weekend, including making all three that she put on goal.
Miami Soccer looks to remain unbeaten and Dolesh looks to continue her hot start Friday when the RedHawks play at Xavier at 1 p.m.
Be sure to check back next Tuesday when MURedHawks.com unveils week two’s Female Athlete of the Week, as again, no men’s sports are in action this week.
