OXFORD, Ohio - After both student-athletes were honored by their conference on Monday, sophomore forward Katy Dolesh (soccer) and junior forward Reilly Smith (hockey) are Miami’s Female and Male Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Oct. 10-16.
Dolesh (South Euclid, Ohio) scored two goals on the weekend to lead Miami to two wins. On Friday, she scored Miami's game-winning goal in double overtime in the 107th minute to give the RedHawks a 2-1 win at Ohio, Miami's third straight overtime win over Ohio. It also snapped a five-game losing streak for the RedHawks. On Sunday, she netted Miami's third goal in a 3-0 victory over then-MAC East leading Akron. She played every minute of both games for a total of 196 minutes on the weekend while compiling four points on six shots, all of which were on goal.
Smith (Mimico, Ont.) made quite an impact in his first two games of the season, totaling five points on four goals and an assist to lead Miami to a split at Colgate. On Friday, Smith had a hand in all four goals as he tallied his second career hat trick while also adding an assist on Miami's other goal, giving him a career-high four points. He scored the RedHawks' first goal and the game-winning goal for Miami in Friday's 4-3 win, notching his final two goals just over three minutes apart early in the third period. On Saturday, Smith scored Miami's second goal, his fourth of the season, which put the RedHawks ahead in the third period. He recorded a +1 rating in each game giving him a +2 rating for the weekend.
Dolesh earned Mid-American Conference co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for her efforts while Smith was named CCHA Offensive Player of the Week Monday as well. Dolesh was also Miami's Female Athlete of the Week for the week of Aug. 15-21.
Dolesh and the rest of the soccer team plays a pair of home games this weekend, hosting Northern Illinois at 3 p.m. on Friday before welcoming Western Michigan Sunday at 1 p.m. Smith and the No. 7/10 RedHawks hockey team remains on the road, opening CCHA play at No. 14 Ferris State Oct. 21-22 with both games set for 7:05 p.m.
