OXFORD, Ohio - Leading both their teams to victories over the weekend, junior forward/midfielder Jess Kodiak and sophomore swimmer Dan Nemeth have been named Miami's Female and Male Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Oct. 17-23.
Kodiak (Naperville, Ill.) recorded two goals Friday in Miami's 3-0 win over Northern Illinois, which was the RedHawks' third straight victory. Her goals were the first two of the game against NIU, giving her the game-winning goal, her second of the year. It was just her second career multi-goal game, also notching two goals Sept. 16 at Evansville earlier this season. Kodiak now leads the Mid-American Conference with 22 points and nine goals on the season. She scored her goals on her only two shots on goal of the match. Sunday against Western Michigan, Kodiak fired three shots, including one on goal, while playing all 90 minutes.
Kodiak was also named MAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for her efforts over the weekend. She was named Miami Female Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 12-18, as well.
Nemeth (Highland Heights, Ohio) captured two individual events and swam on a winning relay team to lead the RedHawks past Xavier on Saturday. He swam a personal-record time of :47.07 en route to victory in the 100 freestyle and also posted a :21.26 time as the winner of the 50 free. Nemeth led off Miami's winning 200 freestyle relay unit in the team's 156-106 win over the Musketeers, as well. Earlier in the week, Nemeth was awarded his Miami letter jacket in ceremonies at Benton Hall for winning his first letter last year.
Kodiak and the rest of the soccer team looks to clinch a berth in the upcoming MAC Tournament Thursday, Oct. 27 when the RedHawks round out the regular season by hosting Bowling Green at 3 p.m. at Miami Soccer Field. Nemeth and Miami's men's swimming team returns to action Friday, Oct. 28 when it travels to Purdue for a non-conference dual meet.
