OXFORD, Ohio – For their performances last week, freshman men’s basketball guard Nike Sibande and junior women’s basketball forward Kendall McCoy are Miami Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 3
Sibande led an inspired Miami offense to two victories this past week. In the RedHawks’ record-breaking 123-40 win over Midway, he scored 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting and also had four rebounds, an assist, two steals and two blocks. In helping Miami defeat Western Illinois on Saturday, Sibande had a team-high 16 points to go with five rebounds, two assists and three steals in 41 minutes of action. He hit 65 percent (13-for-20) of the shots he took, including 50.0 percent (5-for-10) of his three-pointers.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Sibande has been named Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week.
McCoy was a key catalyst in Miami winning its only contest on the slate this past week, a 72-47 triumph over Canisius at home. She scored 16 points off of the bench on 6-of-9 shooting while notching a game-high nine rebounds, just missing her first double-double of the season. Her 16 points marked the third time this season scoring in double figures and matched her season-high set at Purdue on Nov. 15. McCoy now ranks fourth on the team with 8.3 ppg and leads the 'Hawks in rebounds with 6.0 boards per game.
This is the first time this season and third time in her career that McCoy has been named Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Feb. 6-12, 2017.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, Dec. 11.
