COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Miami swimming and diving team sent 13 athletes to the Ohio State Winter Invitational this weekend. All five males and eight females swam in at least one event today. Miami made six appearances in A-finals.
Ana Maria Castellanos led the team with two A-final appearances. She finished fourth in the prelims for the 400 IM (4:30.77) and sixth in the finals. In the 100 breast, Castellanos finished ninth in the prelims (1:06.37) and ninth in the finals. Meredith Applegate also competed well in the 400 IM, finishing sixth in the prelims and fourth in the finals (4:28.74).
Other A-final appearances include Harrison Paul earning sixth in the 500 free (4:40.25), Wesley Fales coming in eighth in the 400 IM (4:03.74) and Michaela Mitchell finishing ninth in the 100 back (57.80).
Joe Hanson led the team in B-final appearances with two. Hanson finished eighth in the 100 fly (53.26) and ninth in the 100 free (48.19). Hannah Wessel won the B-final in the 100 breast (1:06.43) as did Maureen Sullivan in the 100 back (57.98).
Other B-final appearances include Nicholas Haller finishing third in the 100 breast (59.34), Sarah Wolanske earning third in the 500 free (5:05.82), Sarah Heaven coming in fifth in the 100 back (59.46) and Colleen McDermott tagging seventh in the 100 back (1:01.02).
Miami had four athletes qualify for the C-finals in the 100 free. Paul won (47.90) and William Bowater was the runner-up (48.53) on the men’s side. Wolanske and Wessel finished third (53.43) and ninth (55.12), respectively.
The Ohio State Winter Invitational continues on Sunday, February 11. Prelims begin at 11 a.m. and finals begin at 4 p.m.
