OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University swimming and diving team begins the regular season with a home meet against Purdue on Friday at 3 p.m. This weekend's matchup is the Boilermakers' season opener.
Head coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron enters her second season with the program. Diving coach KongRong Li returns for his 11th season. The three new assistant coaches are Ryan Rich, Zach Hinsley and Emma Sougstad.
Both the women and men finished fourth at the MAC Championships. Last season, the women finished with an 8-4 overall dual-meet record and a 3-3 record in the MAC. The men finished last season with a 3-5 overall dual-meet record and a 1-2 MAC record.
Junior Ryan Nash and Red-shirted Senior Pei Lin swept the diving contests at the Red and White meet. Senior Holly Schuster won three events at the intrasquad meet. Noah Barr, Izzy Herb, Elise Campbell, Gordon Wheeler and Kayleigh Cannon each won more than one event at the Red and White meet.
Last season the Purdue men finished with a 5-5 dual-meet record. They finished sixth at the Big Ten Championships and 13th at the NCAA Championships. The Purdue women finished with an 8-4 dual-meet record. The women finished sixth at the Big Ten Championships and 23rd at the NCAA Championships.
The Purdue men are led by Olympic-diver Steele Johnson. He set a Purdue record for 1M Diving last season. The Purdue women are led by senior Kaersten Meitz. She set two Purdue records last season - 500 Freestyle and 1000 Freestyle.
