OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University track & field wrapped up the Miami Duals with a host of running events Saturday.

The ‘Hawks piled their men’s and women’s distance runners into a very fast 1500m. Sean Torpy and Christopher Torpy came out on top, each posting PRs of three seconds or more. It cemented the Torpy brothers as the top two 1500m runners in the Mid-American Conference – Sean first with his 3:46.24 and Chris second with his 3:47.15. Converting to the mile, the times inch them ever closer to the sub-four-minute mark.

On the women’s side, Alesha Vovk, Maria Scavuzzo, and Carly Davis all landed inside the top-10 in the MAC with their respective times. Vovk, who won the event, did so with a PR 4:30.43. On her heels was Scavuzzo and a second-place 4:31.78 followed by Davis and her 4:36.86.

Led by Aaron Muresan, the hurdles team was once again solid. Muresan, the defending MAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, tied his PR of 14.48 in the 110m hurdles to place second. He followed that up with a career-best 53.53 in the 400m hurdles. Freshman Sarah Bruns climbed into the MAC top-10 with the 14.99 she posted in the women’s 100m hurdles.

Highlighting the sprints team, Kalliopi Kountouri hopped into the MAC top-five with a 55.71 in the 400m. She was closely followed by Olivia Bechtel, who posted a 56.61.

Miami will split the team up between two meets next week. They will send competitors to the Mt. SAC Relays in California and the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State.
