OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University baseball and head coach Danny Hayden are thrilled to welcome back Joe Forney as the program’s Director of Baseball Operations. In addition to his duties with the baseball program, he will also serve as the director of operations for softball.

“We are really excited to bring Joe back to the staff,” said Hayden. “He is a tremendous person first and foremost. He is also an extremely hard worker. Having him involved with our baseball program instantly makes us better. I hoped that when Joe left our staff as the volunteer assistant last year that we would be able to work together again. I'm thrilled that it happened so quickly.”

Forney comes to Oxford after spending the past year at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he served as an assistant coach with the institution’s post-graduate team. Forney worked closely with the program’s outfielders and hitters, while also dabbling in collegiate and professional training at all positions. In addition to his on-field duties, Forney developed, organized and implemented community outreach programs for the team.

Prior to his time at IMG Academy, Forney was a volunteer assistant coach here at Miami for the 2015-16 season, where he was responsible for instructing the Red & White’s outfielders and hitters. During his time with the team, he also assisted the director of baseball operations in day-to-day duties of the position and was key in coordinating the program’s prospect and instructional camps.

Forney got his start in coaching the summer prior to his first stint at Miami, serving as an assistant coach with the Cincinnati Steam of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.

Forney graduated from Xavier University in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance. In his first two years with the baseball program, he learned under Hayden, who was his hitting coach with the Musketeers. During his time there, he was a standout player and student, receiving multiple awards and recognitions during his four-year career. Forney spent six semesters on the Dean’s List, was a Presidential Academic Scholar and was a two-time Big East All-Academic Team pick. In addition, he earned the 2015 Xavier University Sedler Award for Outstanding Male Student-Athlete and was also honored with the Xavier Musketeer Distinguished Character Award. On the field, Forney was a 2015 Second-Team All-Big East selection in 2015 and was named to the all-tournament team in 2014 after the Musketeers captured the Big East Tournament Championship.

“I am humbled by this opportunity to return to Miami University,” said Forney. “It is a privilege to be a part of Miami Athletics and its dedication to Graduating Champions. I am eager to support and contribute to the baseball and softball programs!”
