BUFFALO, N.Y. -There may be a significant winter storm hitting the Midwest this weekend, but the Miami University men’s basketball team will look to remain hot as it makes the long trip to Buffalo for a Saturday contest. Tip time is scheduled for 2 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN3.
REBOUNDING MARGIN LEADERS: Miami outrebounded Kent State, 35-33, in its victory on Tuesday. It was the seventh consecutive game that the RedHawks have outrebounded their opponents. Their rebounding margin for the season of +4.8 lead the Mid-American Conference, while their +4.0 margin in conference-only games also is tops in the league.
DOUBLE-DIGITS BEHIND THE ARC: The RedHawks hit 10 three-pointers in win over Kent State on Tuesday. It was fifth time they had double-digit three point makes in a game this season. Miami has hit 143 total shots from behind the arc this year, led by freshman guard Nike Sibande with 36 and redshirt junior guard Jake Wright with 34.
RINGO NATIONAL RANKINGS WATCH: Junior guard Darrian Ringo currently ranks sixth in the nation with 128 total assists while his 8.0 assists per game average ranks fourth. Ringo is ninth in the country with 42 total steals. His 2.63 steals per game average also ranks ninth.
ABOUT BUFFALO: The Bulls have been off to a tremendous start at 11-5 overall. They are the only 3-0 team in the MAC and are currently ranked 31st in the latest RPI ratings. Buffalo earned its fourth straight victory with an 87-65 win at Akron in its last game on Tuesday. The Bulls play at a fast pace, averaging 83.0 points per game. Five players average in double figures for UB. It is led by junior guard CJ Massinburg. He is averaging a team-leading 19.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Another key player is senior guard Wes Clark. The Missouri transfer averages 17.2 points per contest.
THE SERIES WITH BUFFALO: The RedHawks hold a 24-17 lead in the all-time series with the Bulls. The teams split their two meetings last season. On Jan. 24, 2017 in Oxford, despite trailing for the majority of the game, Miami had a furious second half rally to take a 75-74 win. Dion Wade hit the game winning free throw with 1.4 seconds left. Marcus Weathers led the ‘Hawks with 18 points. On Feb. 18, 2017 in Buffalo, the Bulls took a 71-58 victory. Michael Weathers led Miami with 19 points in that contest.
