CLEVELAND—Senior forward Julian Mavunga was selected to the East Division Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Team and the Miami University RedHawks were predicted to finish fourth in the East Division in a poll of a 24-member MAC News Media Panel, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Mavunga earned NABC Second-Team All-District 14 and First-Team All-MAC plaudits as a junior, marking the eighth straight year Miami has had a player on the All-MAC First Team, the longest active stretch of any MAC men’s basketball program. Also earning Honorable Mention All-MAC honors as a sophomore, Mavunga has a chance to become just the 11th player in program history to capture All-MAC honors three times in a career. He also is poised to become the 34th player in program history to surpass the 1,000 career point plateau and has a legitimate shot at breaking the school’s career games played record.

Last season, Mavunga was the only player to rank among the top 15 in the MAC in conference-only games for scoring (5th), rebounding (1st) and assists (9th). He led the conference in rebounding in MAC-only games, averaging 9.5 ppg. He averaged 16.1 ppg in league action as well as 3.33 apg to spearhead Miami to its most MAC wins (11) since 2005-06 when the RedHawks posted 14 wins during an 18-game conference slate. He was Miami’s top point, rebound and assist man in 2010-11.

Miami is coming off the program’s 25th postseason berth and is just eight conference wins away from becoming the first in MAC history to attain 600 league victories.

The RedHawks tip off the season on Tuesday, Nov. 15, hosting long-time local-rival Dayton at 7 p.m. at Millett Hall. Tickets are now on sale for the Dayton game, and fans still have time to purchase season tickets or a Five-Game Plan.
