Following in the footsteps of his famous grandfather, John Pont begins his first season on Miami University's football coaching staff. He joined head coach Don Treadwell's staff in August of 2011 and serves as a defensive intern, assisting Jay Peterson with the RedHawk linebackers.
The 2007 Miami University graduate played for the school's club lacrosse team, captaining the squad in '06 and '07.
Pont began his coaching career at Florida State, serving as Bobby Bowden and Jimbo Fisher's offensive graduate student assistant from 2008-09. He also headed up the women's lacrosse team for two seasons. During that time at FSU, he earned a Master's degree in sport administration.
Pont became wide receivers and tight ends coach at North Alabama for coach Terry Bowden in July of 2009. Pont made a brief stop at North Texas in 2010 before moving on to Colorado State, where he was offensive quality control coach for the Rams' football team. He also was head women's lacrosse coach at CSU. Pont returned to North Alabama for a short time in 2011, just prior to his post at Miami.
Pont's grandfather, John, is a distinguished member of Miami's famed Cradle of Coaches as well as a charter member of Miami's Athletics Hall of Fame. He was the first Miamian to have his jersey number retired (42).
John is married to the former Tera Bowden. His grandmother, Sandy, resides in Oxford.
