With the loss of several leaders from the 2016 football team, head football coach Chuck Martin is looking for a handful of guys to step up and assert themselves for the upcoming season. One of those players is senior-to-be Jared Murphy.
“A lot of guys look up to you and it’s your job to teach the guys the playbook and help them get acclimated,” said Murphy.
Murphy is by far the most experienced RedHawk on the team with 40 games played and 21 starts at wide receiver. This past season he finished second on the team with 43 catches and 552 yards, helping Miami advance to its first bowl game since 2010, but the Columbia City, Ind., native expects much bigger things from the team next season.
“I think more than anything, we have to be hungrier than ever,” said Murphy. “It’s easy to become a decent team, but to take that leap and become a great team, that is when the hard work has to kick in.”
Murphy talks about his leadership role, breaks down the wide receiver position and talks about challenges for next season in the above interview.
