JT Jones, a former member of the Miami University football team, signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League on Saturday afternoon.
Jones was one of the most decorated defensive ends in Miami football history, starting 38 games in his career, while recording 24.5 sacks and 41.0 tackles for loss in his career. Both numbers rank third in Miami football history.
This past season, the East Atlanta, Georgia native earned Second-Team All-MAC honors after recording 47 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks for one of the best defenses in the conference.
In 2015 he was named Third-Team All-MAC, finishing fourth on the team with 52 tackles and added 14.5 TFLs and 10 sacks. His standout game that season was a four-sack performance in a win over Eastern Michigan, establishing a new school record for sacks in a game.
In 2014 Jones started all 12 games and had 50 tackles, 5.0 sacks and 8.0 TFL and added 26 tackles, 6.0 TFL and 3.0 sacks as a red-shirt freshman in 2013. Jones sat out the 2012 season as a redshirt.
