Lener Joins Fighting Illini Administrative Staff as Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director
CHAMPAIGN, ILL - University of Illinois director of athletics Mike Thomas added to his senior staff Monday when he named Jason Lener executive senior associate athletics director. He will begin his duties at Illinois on Dec. 1.
"I first became aware of Jason from my time at Cincinnati and am confident he will step right in and prove to be a strong presence within the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics," Thomas said. "Jason managed the daily operations of the athletic department at Miami and worked very closely with the campus administration. His wide range of experience will make him a great fit at Illinois."
Lener has served as deputy athletic director at Miami University since 2006, where he led the athletic department senior management team and managed daily operations for the department. He also served as thesport administrator for football and men's basketball, and was the principal liaison with Miami's budget and finance office, general counsel's office, human resources, information technology, the NCAA and the Mid-American Conference.

A native of Hermitage, Pa., Lener earned his bachelor's degree from Westminster College (New Wilmington, Pa.) in 1993, where he was a three-year letterwinner as a quarterback in the Titan football program from1990-92. He went on to earn his MBA from Robert Morris University in 1996 with an emphasis in sports administration while he was a graduate assistant with the football program.
Lener began his administrative career as assistant director of ticket operations at Pittsburgh in 1996 before being named director of ticket operations from 1997-99. In 1999, he was named the director of finance at Pittsburgh and he was promoted to assistant athletic director for business, finance and personnel. He accepted his current position at Miami in 2006.
Jason and his wife, Jodi, have three children, McKinley (11), Callan (9) and Cole (9).
