PINEHURST, N.C. - The Miami University golf team finished in a tie for ninth after shooting a team score of 298 in the final round of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Nathan Sutherland was unable to hold onto the individual lead he held during the first two rounds, finishing in fifth at two under par after a final round 74.
"We didn't play that bad today," said head coach Casey Lubahn. "We continued our trend of not finishing rounds, but was happy with the play of Ben Wood and Nathan Sutherland today. I'm hoping spring break will be a nice spring board for the remainder of the season. We got a lot of practice in and feel much more prepared then we were 10 days ago."
In addition to Sutherland's two under final total, Wood finished in a tie for 32nd at seven over par after shooting a 73 today. Anthony Cordes was tied for 44th at nine over after shooting a 75, Michael Drobnick was tied for 66th at 13 over par after shooting a final round 76, and Ben Bastel was 95th at 19 over par after shooting a 79.
"I was extremely impressed with Nathan today," said Lubahn. "He was right there until the final four holes, but went down swinging. He wanted to win, but he's made some nice progress this year and has the tools for a great season."
Miami returns to action when it participates in the Ball State Cardinal Collegiate March 28-29. The 54 hole tournament will feature 36 holes on March 28, followed by a final 18 on March 29.
