NASHPORT, Ohio – The Miami men’s golf team is in third place after two rounds of the Mid-American Conference Championship tournament on Friday. The RedHawks have a team score of 31-over par. Kent State leads the event at two over par, while Eastern Michigan is in second place at eight over par.
“I’m disappointed with the amount of mental mistakes we made today,” said head coach Casey Lubahn. “Now that it is a win or go home situation we have to clean them up. We can forgive physical mistakes, but we cannot have mental ones.”
Nathan Sutherland put together two solid rounds, shooting a 72 in the morning and following it up with a 73 in the afternoon. He is currently one over par and in a tie for third place, three shots behind the individual lead.
“Nathan played the best tee to green that I have ever seen,” said Lubahn. “He just needs to make some putts and he’ll be right there (in contention).”
Craig Voorhees is in 11th place at five over par after rounds of 76 and 73. Michael Drobnick is tied for 28th at 13-over par. Freshmen Brett Tomfohrde and Blake English are tied with each other for 39th at 15-over par.
The MAC Championship continues Saturday morning with the third round.
“We don’t need to do anything crazy tomorrow,” said Lubahn. “We just need to make some solid holes and make up some ground on the leaders.”
