AKRON, Ohio – The Miami University men’s golf team returns to action this week when it participates in the Firestone Invitational. The tournament takes place at the University of Akron’s home course, the Firestone Country Club. This year teams will challenge the North Course, a 7,125-yard par 72. The RedHawks will play 36 holes on Monday and one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
Representing Miami at the Firestone Invitational will be juniors Ben Peacock and Brett Tomfohrde, sophomores Austin Kelly and Mark MacDonald, and making his collegiate debut, freshman Brantley Kushner. Several Mid-American Conference schools will join Miami and host Akron at this tournament, including Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Toledo. Rounding out the field are Davidson, Illinois State, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas State, Maryland, Nebraska, SMU, Saint Mary’s, South Alabama, USC-Aiken and Wisconsin.
Head Coach Zac Zedrick is eager to get his team back on the course after a two-week break.
“Over the past couple of weeks, I think we’ve really started to come together as a team,” said Zedrick. “The boys are starting to buy into the culture I’m creating here and push each other. I’m excited to get up to Firestone and see how we compete.”
