OXFORD, Ohio -- Former Miami All-American and current San Jose Shark defensemen Dan Boyle will be honored at first intermission of Friday night's hockey game vs. Lake Superior State, the athletic department announced today.
Boyle, who was recently named to the Canadian National Team for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, will take advantage of a night off between road games to visit Steve Cady Arena. A 2008 inductee into the Miami Athletic Hall of Fame, Boyle will be presented with his Hall of Fame plaque, as he was unable to attend the official ceremony two years ago due to National Hockey League scheduling committments.
A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Boyle is in his 12th season in the NHL and second with the Sharks. He has appeared in 51 games this year, tallying 43 points (10g, 33a). San Jose plays at St. Louis Thursday and at Nashville on Saturday as part of a six-game road trip, allowing him the opportunity for a side junket to Oxford.
A four-year letterwinner for Miami from 1994-98, Boyle earned first-team All-America honors in 1997 and 1998. He is one of the most prolific defensive scorers in school history, ranking ninth all-time with 147 points (40g, 107a) in 148 games.
