COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A pair of Miami hockey standouts were recognized for their strong seasons by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior forward Anthony Louis (Winfield, Ill./USANTDP (USHL)) was named First-Team All-NCHC while junior defenseman and team captain Louie Belpedio (Skokie, Ill./USANTDP (USHL)) received All-NCHC Honorable Mention.
Louis tied for second in the NCHC in scoring with a career-high 37 points on 13 goals and 24 assists. His goal total was also a career high. He notched 10 multi-point games, giving him 31 in his career. He also recorded three of his six career multi-goal games in 2016-17. He also strung together a career-high eight-game point from Dec. 9-Jan. 20 and put up at least one point in 25 of 34 contests. The Winfield, Illinois native was also named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week on Jan. 16.
Despite missing 10 games due to injury, Belpedio led Miami blue liners with 17 points on six goals and 11 assists in just 24 games. The Skokie, Illinois native put up five multi-point games after posting six in his first two years combined. His five power play goals were the second most on the Red & White while his 14 power play points sat third on the team.
This is the first time Louis has earned either First or Second-Team All-NCHC honors in his career while Belpedio is nabbing NCHC Honorable Mention recognition for the second-straight season.
The RedHawks are in action on Friday when they begin their NCHC Playoff series at Minnesota Duluth. Puck drops at 8:07 p.m.
