FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Two RedHawks have garnered CCHA weekly honors after leading Miami to the Denver Cup Classic title as junior forward Reilly Smith was named CCHA Player of the Week while freshman forward Austin Czarnik won Rookie of the Week, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Monday. A Miami player has now won a CCHA weekly honor four straight weeks.

Smith (Mimico, Ont.) led Miami to the tournament crown with a three-goal weekend while being named Tournament MVP and landing on the All-Tournament Team. In Friday's 6-2 win over Providence, Smith scored Miami's second goal with just 4.5 seconds left in the first period. Saturday in a 4-2 win over No. 9/10 Denver he tallied two goals, including the game-winning goal in the second period. It was his third multi-goal game this year and 12th of his career. He now has 11 goals on the year, including six in his last five games, and ranks sixth nationally with 0.79 goals per game. He was +1 in each game for a +2 rating on the weekend and put 12 shots on goal between the two games.

Smith has now earned CCHA Player of the Week twice this year, also winning it Oct. 17 after a five-point weekend at Colgate. It was his fourth career CCHA Player of the Week honor, winning it twice as a sophomore as well.

Freshman Austin Czarnik

Czarnik (Washington, Mich.) had a four-point weekend in Denver, also landing him on the All-Tournament Team. Friday against Providence, he handed out a pair of assists, both on the power play, one of which was the primary assist. He had four shots on goal and was +1 in the game. In Saturday's win over the Pioneers, Czarnik had another multi-point game with a goal and an assist. He had the primary assist which led to Miami's first goal that tied the game at 1-1 while on the power play. He then gave Miami the lead later in the first period with an unassisted goal. Czarnik now has three straight multi-point games and nine points in his last five games. He was also +1 Saturday making him +2 on the weekend with seven shots on goal. He has five multi-point games this year, which leads all RedHawks.

Czarnik has now been named CCHA Rookie of the Week twice in the last three weeks, winning it for the first time Nov. 14 after a three-point game against Michigan. Classmate Tyler Biggs started the run of weekly winners, claiming CCHA Rookie of the Week Nov. 7, followed by Czarnik and then senior defenseman Chris Wideman, who won CCHA Defenseman of the Week last week.

Smith and Czarnik are tied for the team lead with 14 points each. Smith has a team-best 11 goals, including three game-winners, while Czarnik is first with nine assists.

The high-scoring duo leads Miami back into action this weekend as the RedHawks return to CCHA play at Northern Michigan Friday and Saturday with both games set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
