OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's men's swimming and diving team got first-place points from Chris Gunnels (Chapel Hill, NC) and Jason Hass (Jackson, MI), but Big Ten power Purdue rolled past the RedHawks Friday evening, 193.5 to 99.5, in action at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
Gunnels won the 100 freestyle by one one-hundredth of a second over the Boilermakers' Danny Tucker, 47.09 to 47.10, and also placed second in the 200 free. Hass grabbed nine points in the 200 IM. Brendan Melling (Solon) placed second in both the 200 breaststroke and the 1000 free to earn eight team points.
In diving action last weekend at Purdue, Miami's JIM BERES (Columbus) took second place in the one-meter competition.
On Saturday afternoon (Oct. 30) at 2 p.m., Miami entertains Cleveland State at the Recreation Center. There is no admission charge.
