Miami Men's Track and Field Finishes Second at Southern Ohio Cup

OXFORD, Ohio - While each team won nine of the 19 events at the Southern Ohio Cup on Saturday afternoon at the George Rider Track in Oxford, Cincinnati edged Miami on the team tote board by 13 points, 165-152, to win the meet. Ohio finished third with 88 points.
Four of Miami's nine wins came in the running events, including both hurdle races and the two longest running events. Senior Chris Swisher (Milan, Ind./Milan) won the 1500 in 4:07.46 and junior Dan Huling (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) won the 5000 in 14:58.59. Junior Eric Bowman (Dayton, Ohio/Dayton Christian) took the 110 hurdles in 14.76 seconds and fellow Class of 2006 hurdler Bobby Houston (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) won the 400 event in 53.31.
Miami won five of the eight field events. Erik Reynolds (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) won the high jump with a 6-6 3/4 height while junior Ceith Creekmur (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) was Miami's second victorious jumper, reaching a distance of 22-8 in the long jump.
Three of the four throwing events also went Miami's way, as freshman Dan Beach (Arlington, Ohio/Arlington) won the discus with a 143-8 distance, sophomore Jake Dunkleberger (Smyrna, Ga./The Lovett School) won the hammer by throwing 171 feet and junior Rob Prechtl (Fredonia, N.Y./Fredonia) took the javelin competition with a 179-7 distance.
While Miami's next team event isn't until the Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana University on May 6, Swisher, Huling and Dunkleberger represent the Red and White at the Penn Relays next Thursday through Saturday.
