Men's Track and Field Tabbed Fifth in MAC Outdoor Preseason Poll Rob Prechtl Rob Prechtl

CLEVELAND - Returning 18 letterwinners and a pair of all-conference selections, the Miami University men's track and field team has been tabbed to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's head coach and released by the conference office. The Kent State Golden Flashes were selected as the league's preseason favorite.

The RedHawks returning all-MAC honorees from a season ago are redshirt sophomore Kevin Dwyer, who was the MAC runner-up in the decathlon last season, and senior Rob Precthl, who battled through injuries to place second in the javelin at the conference meet. Miami also boasts sophomore Pat Sovacool, the RedHawks' only returning regional qualifier, and welcomes back junior Jake Kuhner, who missed most of last season with an injury but was a regional qualifier in the pole vault two seasons ago.

Miami enters the 2007 outdoor season as a relatively young team, with only five of its 44 team members as seniors. More than one-third of Miami's roster is comprised of true and redshirt freshman, but the youthful RedHawks should benefit from hosting the conference meet for the first time since 2004. The 2007 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships are slated for May 10-12 at the George L. Rider Track in Oxford, and the last time Miami hosted the event, it placed fourth and sent six athletes to the regional meet.

The RedHawks opened their outdoor season last weekend at the Wake Forest Open and continue competition this weekend at the Southern Ohio Cup (March 31) hosted by Ohio University.
