NEW ORLEANS - After finishing second at the season-opening Dayton Flyer 5K Invitational Sept. 5, the Miami men’s cross country team has been ranked 10th in the Great Lakes Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in its preseason poll released Monday, Sept. 14.

The RedHawks, who finished ninth at last year’s Great Lakes Regional meet, are the highest-ranked Mid-American Conference team in the regional poll. Miami finished eighth in last year’s final Great Lakes Region poll.

Wisconsin is ranked atop the preseason Great Lakes Region poll, followed by Butler, Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame, respectively. Eastern Michigan was the next-highest MAC team, falling just behind Miami at 11th in the poll. Kent State is 12th while Central Michigan is 14th in the regional poll. Dayton, who finished ahead of Miami at the Flyer 5K, is eighth in the Great Lakes Region.

Miami returns to action Saturday, Sept. 19, when the RedHawks head to New York City for the Iona Meet of Champions.
