Field Hockey Plays in First Round of NCAA Tournament

DURHAM, N.C. - The Miami University field hockey team will play at No. 2 Duke in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The RedHawks will face the Blue Devils on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Miami won its first NCAA tournament game in program history on Wednesday, beating No. 16 Stanford 2-1 in Palo Alto, California. Both of the RedHawks’ goals came from the stick of Paula Portugal, bringing her total to 20 goals on the season. Miami led the game in shots 13-8 and penalty corners 8-1, holding Stanford without a penalty corner in the second half.

ABOUT DUKE: The No. 2 Blue Devils come into the NCAA Tournament with a 16-3 overall record, 4-2 in conference play. Duke fell to No. 10 Louisville in a shootout in the ACC Semifinals, 3-2. Leading the Blue Devils’ scoring efforts is junior forward Rose Tynan with 15 goals and 33 total points.

SERIES WITH DUKE: The Blue Devils lead the all-time series with the RedHawks 3-0. Earlier this season, Duke beat Miami 2-0. Junior goalkeeper Maddie Passarella made 15 saves and helped lead the Miami defense to shut out Duke in the first half.
