OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University soccer team wraps up its 2017 campaign with a home tilt against rival Ball State on Thursday afternoon.
Opening kick against the Cardinals is slated for 3 p.m.
The RedHawks (2-14-1, 2-7-1 Mid-American) dropped a pair of 1-0 decisions on the road last week. MU was unable to answer a first half Akron goal last Thursday before battling Buffalo scoreless through 90 minutes before dropping the tilt in overtime. Those setbacks leave Miami missing the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2011, though the program did follow that by winning the MAC regular season and tournament crowns the next season. Miami’s roster of 13 true freshmen was the second most in the country this season.
Ball State (9-6-3, 7-1-2 MAC) sits one point behind Kent State for the MAC lead and is pursuing its third-straight regular season MAC title. Seven Cardinals have scored two or more goals this season, with Julia Elvbo and Sam Kambol tying for the team lead with four goals apiece. BSU has split the duties in goal between Alyssa Heintschel (0.65 GAA, .867 save%) and Tristin Stuteville (1.16 GAA, .732 save%), who have combined for seven shutouts.
Miami is 8-10-3 all-time against Ball State and dropped the last two meetings with the Cardinals.
