CLEVELAND, Ohio – A total of 11 Miami soccer players were recognized for their diligent efforts on the pitch and the classroom as they earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors on Thursday.
The RedHawks’ 11 selections were only two off of the MAC lead as Ball State and Western Michigan landed 13 on the squad while Central Michigan had 12 selections.
Representing the Red & White on the postseason academic squad were Katie Alexander (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley), Jenny Barr (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North), Tori Christiansen (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley), Reagan Fleck (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka), Patricia Koutoulas (Toronto, Ontario/Don Mills Collegiate Institute), Madison Knock (Avon, Ind./Avon), Chloe Knue (Mason, Ohio/Mason), Bianca Medancic (Chesterland, Ohio/Hawken), Shae van Gassen (Sarnia, Ontario/Schoolcraft), Olivia Winnett (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) and Kat Zalar (Concord, Ohio/Hawken). A total of 120 student-athletes were named to the team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
