PEORIA, Ill. – The Miami University softball team lost its doubleheader at the Bradley Tournament on Saturday. In the first game, the RedHawks lost to Washington 19-0. Miami fell to Western Illinois in the second game by a 14-0 margin.
Washington 19, Miami 0 – 5 inn.
Washington brought the pressure early and often, scoring nine runs in the first inning alone and four home runs during the game. Shannon Hohman, Jaime Scher and Taylor Rathe all got time on the mound for the RedHawks. Rathe tallied four strikeouts in her three innings pitched.
Western Illinois 14, Miami 0 – 6 inn.
Courtney Vierstra started the game on the mound for the RedHawks. In the first inning, she faced only three batters, striking out all three. Vierstra recorded another strikeout in the second inning with a double play from Mackenzie Moore to Ashton Slone keeping the game scoreless through two. Western Illinois was able to break the tie in the top of the third. Vierstra pitched four innings, recorded five strikeouts and was charged with only three earned runs.
Hohman, Rathe and Scher all made appearances pitching in the fifth and sixth innings.
The RedHawks conclude the Bradley Tournament on Sunday with a 3 p.m. game against Saint Louis.
