Final Stats

DAYTON, Ohio – The softball team earned a split with Wright State Thursday afternoon defeating the Raiders 6-1 in the first game, before falling 9-4 in the nightcap. The RedHawks are now 13-12 on the season.

Jordan McElroy got the RedHawks on the board first in the top of the first of game one when she scored on a wild pitch. She also scored Miami’s second run in the top of the third when came home on a throwing error by the Wright State shortstop. Alexis Javier made it 3-0 in the sixth when she singled home Daniela Torres.

After the Raiders scored in the bottom of the sixth to make it 3-1, Miami put the game away with three runs in the top of the seventh. The RedHawks loaded the bases with no one out. A Meghan Mawn groundout to second base scored Ashley Gartland. Two batters later, Daniela Torres hit a single down the right field line that brought home two more runs.

Mawn finished the game 2-for-4 with one RBI. Sarah Billstrom was 2-for-3 with a walk and one run scored. Jessica Simpson was strong on the mound, pitching a complete game and giving up only one earned run on eight hits.

Game two was a struggle for Miami as Wright State opened the game with three runs in the first inning off of starter Meredith Linch. Wright State added single runs in the second and third, as well as three more in the fourth to open up an 8-0 lead.

The RedHawks were able to avoid the run-rule with three runs in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded, McElroy hit a single up the middle that scored two runs. Billstrom followed that up with a single to shortstop, which scored Javier.

After the Raiders scored one more in the bottom of the fifth, Miami finished the scoring in the top of the seventh when Jenna McGivney singled home Javier.

In game two, McElroy was 2-for-4 with two RBI. McGivney and Torres also had two hits apiece during the game.

 Miami is off for the next eight days before beginning Mid-American Conference play. The RedHawks will travel to Eastern Michigan for a doubleheader on Friday, March 27 that begins at 2 p.m. They will then face Central Michigan in Mt. Pleasant in single games Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29.
