OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University softball team takes the series against Kent State two games to one with a 3-2 comeback win on Saturday. The RedHawks are 17-19 overall this season and 6-8 in MAC games.
Miami 3, Kent State 2
Jaime Scher started the game in the circle and went five full innings. Scher gave up two runs on three hits and struck out one. Courtney Vierstra relieved Scher to start the sixth inning. Vierstra only gave up one hit on two innings of work.
Kent State took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a double and a triple.
The RedHawks tied the game in the fourth inning on a solo home run from Ashton Slone, her fourth of the season. Kat Lee and Lizzie Bollinger each singled after Slone’s home run but were stranded on base.
The Golden Flashes reclaimed a one-run lead with a solo shot in the top of the fifth.
Miami claimed its first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Wahl and Slone led off with a pair of singles and advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Lee. Kaitlyn Gliha hit a two-out double that scored two to take a 3-2 lead.
Slone (home run, RBI, single), Gliha (double, two RBI’s) and Wahl (walk, two singles) led the RedHawks at the plate. Wurts (walk) and Tran, Lee and Bollinger (each with a single) all reached base once.
Miami hosts Wright State for a doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
