Muncie, Ind. - Miami University's women's swimming and diving team fell to Ball State University, 124-176, Saturday afternoon in its final dual meet before competing in the Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 20-23.
Ball State earned 1-2 finishes four of the five freestyle events as Miranda Kaltenborn broke through and earned a top finish with a time of 10:27.48 in the 1000 freestyle. After another 1-2 Ball State finish in the 100 backstroke, Kaltenborn again registered the top time in the 200 backstroke, 2:08.36. Ball State swept the 100 backstroke, but Kelsey Vehr defeated Ball State's Catherine Ingram by a slim three-tenths of a second margin.
The Cardinals again took the top two spots in the 100 and 200 butterfly events, but the RedHawks responded as sophomore Karen Frazier and freshman Megan Brunn finished 1-2 in the 200 individual medley, with times of 2:09.53 and 2:12.45, respectively.
Despite struggling in the individual events, the RedHawks were able to take the top time in both the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay, but it wasn't enough as the RedHawks fell to the Cardinals, 124-176.
Miami has 10 days without a meet before competing in the MAC Championships, which will be held in Buffalo, N.Y., Feb. 20-23.
