Tennis Continues Streak with 5-2 Win at Toledo

MAUMEE, Ohio -- Miami took the doubles point and won four of six singles matches to defeat Toledo 5-2 in women's tennis action Friday afternoon at the Shadow Hills Tennis Club. The victory was the RedHawks' 28th straight in regular-season Mid-American Conference play.
The match, which was played indoors due to weather, started with an 8-4 No. 2 doubles win by Riekie Honiball and Christine Guerrazzi. Stephane Danesis and Alix Thurman followed with an 8-6 win at No. 2 to put Miami up 1-0. Toledo (7-8, 0-2) earned an 8-6 win at No. 3.
The RedHawks (8-9, 3-0) quickly moved ahead 3-0 with Guerrazzi winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 and Thurman taking the No. 5 match, 6-4, 6-0. Toledo closed the gap with back-to-back wins at No. 4 and 2, but Danesis gutted out a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4) victory at No. 1. Christiana Raymond finished off the victory winning the No. 4 match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
"We didn't necessarily play our best tennis today, but we continued to fight and compete extremely well in the face of adversity," assistant coach Ricky Rosas said. "We look forward to keep building and getting better tomorrow against Eastern Michigan."
Miami continues its road trip with a Saturday against Eastern Michigan.
