OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University women’s tennis team will conclude their fall season this weekend when they travel to Blacksburg, Va. for the Hokie Fall Invite. The tournament, played at Virginia Tech’s Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center, will run from Sunday, Nov. 3 to Sunday, Nov. 5.
The RedHawks will be one of ten teams in attendance this weekend. Along with the host Hokies, players from Old Dominion, VCU, Liberty, Radford, George Washington, Penn State, James Madison, and Wofford will also be competing in doubles and singles rotations throughout the invitational.
This event marks the fourth and final fall tournament on Miami’s fall calendar. The last time the ‘Hawks took the court was at West Virginia’s Martha Thorn Invite, from Oct. 20-22. Several players will be looking to continue the strong play they showcased at West Virginia, as senior Nelli Ponomareva, junior Emily Struble, and freshmen Melati Devi and Milana Lysova all posted winning individual records for the tournament.
First-year head coach Ricardo Rosas will lead the Red and White into Blacksburg. Before being named head coach this summer, Rosas spent 15 years as a Miami assistant, helping the program to eight conference titles and five NCAA tournament appearances during his time here.
Like all fall tennis events, the Hokie Fall Invite will not be scored on a team basis and will not contribute to each team’s overall record. Players are competing solely as individuals, and their individual rankings are affected. The spring season, which will kick off in January, consists of head-to-head dual matches that will affect the team’s record.
