OXFORD, Ohio - For her stellar performance last Friday in the tri-meet at Ball State with Western Michigan, sophomore Lashonda Davis (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) has been named the Mid-American Conference's Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week. Davis broke her own school indoor record in the 55 meters and won the triple jump while finishing second in the long jump.
Davis' previous 55-meter best was 7.11 seconds, a time she cut to 7.02 seconds in the race's final on Friday. She won the triple jump with a leap of 38-0, and came within 2 3/4 inches of making it three wins on the day in the long jump, where she leapt 19-10 1/4. Earlier this year, Davis reset the indoor long jump mark to 20-3.
It was the third meet of the seven she has competed in this year in which she has won two events and was her first triple jump win of the year. Davis and the RedHawks travel to Central Michigan for the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday.
