CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly volleyball awards on Monday. For Miami, senior right side hitter Katie Tomasic was named MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week. It is the second weekly MAC award for her in her career.
Tomasic was named Tournament MVP as she led Miami to a tournament championship at the Carolina Classic. For the week she averaged 2.44 kills per set and 0.61 blocks per set. She had a .340 attack percentage from the right side. Against Dayton earlier in the week, Tomasic recorded 12 kills and seven blocks (one solo and six assisted). After starting out the Carolina Classic with eight kills against Radford and nine kills in win over host South Carolina, she had 15 kills and three block assists to lead Miami to a come from behind victory over Eastern Kentucky.
Miami returns to action this weekend when it competes in the Stacey Clark Classic. On Friday, the RedHawks will take on the host, 17th-ranked Purdue at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Miami takes on Loyola (Chi.) at 3 p.m.
