WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Coming off a tournament championship down south last weekend, the Miami University volleyball team heads to West Lafayette, Indiana for the final weekend of non-conference play, where it will compete in the Stacey Clark Classic. On Friday, the RedHawks will take on the host, 15th-ranked Purdue at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Miami faces Loyola (Chi.) at 3 p.m.
WINNING TOURNAMENTS: The RedHawks victory in the Carolina Classic was the third straight season and eighth time in the past seven seasons that Miami has won a non-conference tournament. Those other wins include the 2011 Quality Inn Classic, the 2012 Miami Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational, the 2013 Belmont Invitational, the 2013 Miami Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational, the 2013 Billiken Challenge, the 2015 Miami Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational and the 2016 Auburn Invitational.
CONDIT CLOSER TO MILESTONES: With seven victories this season, head coach Carolyn Condit is closing in on a couple of important career win milestones. The all-time winningest coach regardless of sport at Miami, she now has 594 wins at the school, needing six more for 600. For her career, she has 693 wins and needs only seven more to reach 700.
ABOUT PURDUE: The Boilermakers are 8-1 on the season and ranked 15th nationally in the latest AVCA Coaches' Poll. At the Kansas Invitational last weekend, they upset ninth-ranked Creighton, 3-1, before falling to host and seventh-ranked Kansas in four sets. They rebounded to defeat Belmont in straight sets on Saturday. Purdue is led by senior outside hitter Danielle Cuttino. A Third-Team All-American last season, she 124 kills, an average of 4.00 per set. She has a .385 attack percentage. Another key player is redshirt junior outside hitter Sherridan Atkinson. She has 105 kills, an average of 3.50 per set. As a team, Purdue leads the nation with a .354 hitting percentage.
SERIES AGAINST PURDUE: Purdue holds a 6-2 lead in the all-time series with Miami. The teams last met at the Dayton Flyer Classic on Sept. 20, 2008. The RedHawks suffered a 0-3 (16-25, 15-25, 15-25) to the then 20th-ranked Boilermakers. Michelle Mangia had a double-double for Miami with 17 assists and 10 digs.
ABOUT LOYOLA: The Ramblers are 1-8 on the season. They have dropped three matches in a row by straight sets, to Marquette and then 13th-ranked Kentucky over the weekend, and to DePaul last Tuesday. Loyola is led by junior outside hitter Gabi Maciagowski. She has 70 kills, an average of 2.69 per set.
SERIES AGAINST LOYOLA: Loyola holds a 2-1 lead in the all-time series with Miami. The teams last met at the Florida Invitational on August 31, 1997. Miami came away with a 3-0 (15-9, 15-11, 15-11) victory. Maggie Clark had 12 kills, while Mindy Collins finished with 18 digs for the Red and White.
