Volleyball Hosts Eastern and Central for Dig Pink Weekend

Game Notes: Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan Get Acrobat Reader

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University women's volleyball team holds its annual Dig Pink weekend to raise awareness about breast cancer. The RedHawks will host two Mid-American Conference opponents as part of the event. On Friday, Miami takes on Eastern Michigan at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the RedHawks face Central Michigan at 5 p.m. Both games will be available live via the Miami All-Access subscription package.

MAC RANKINGS: Nearly halfway into the conference season, the RedHawks are comparing relatively well statistically with their fellow MAC schools. In MAC-only games, Miami ranks fifth in hitting percentage at .238. The Red and White is sixth in blocks with 1.90 per set and sixth in digs with 14.33 per set. Individually, the RedHawks have three players in the top six in hitting percentage in MAC-only games. Cassie Farrell ranks third in the conference at .384. Christina Menche is tied for fourth at .368, while Amy Raseman is sixth at .355. Madison Hardy is fourth with a MAC average of 4.71 digs per set.

ABOUT EASTERN MICHIGAN: The Eagles are 15-6 overall and 3-3 in the MAC. EMU won both matches last weekend, defeating Toledo in straight sets on Friday. It then handed Ball State it's first conference loss of the year with a 3-1 victory on Saturday. Offensively the Eagles are led by junior outside hitter Rachel Iaquaniello. She has 291 kills on the season, an average of 3.83 kills per set. They also have a solid setter in senior Ashley Mason. She has 780 assists, an average of 10.00 assists per set. Defensively, Eastern is led by senior libero Haley Stein. She has 412 digs, an average of 5.28 digs per set.

THE SERIES AGAINST THE EAGLES: Miami holds a 34-13 lead in the all-time series with Eastern Michigan. The Eagles ended a five-game losing streak to the RedHawks with a 3-1 victory on Oct. 15, 2010 in Ypsilanti last season. Colleen Loftus had a double-double with 11 kills and 18 digs, while Lisa Treadway had 21 digs for Miami in that match.

ABOUT CENTRAL MICHIGAN: The Chippewas are 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the MAC. They fell in straight sets to Ball State on Friday, before rebounding with a 3-2 victory over Toledo on Saturday. Offensively, CMU is led by freshman outside hitter Kaitlyn McIntyre. She has 189 kills, an average of 2.95 kills per set. Its primary setter is sophomore Kelly Maxwell. She has 593 assists, an average of 10.40 per set. Sophomore Jenna Coates handles a lot of the libero work. She has 262 digs, an average of 4.03 digs per set.

THE SERIES AGAINST THE HUSKIES: Miami holds a 30-22-1 lead in the all-time series with Central Michigan. The teams met twice last season, with the Chippewas taking a 3-0 victory on Oct. 16, 2010 in Mt. Pleasant during their regular season meeting. The teams would draw each other in the first round of the MAC Tournament, facing off on Nov. 16, 2010, once again in Mt. Pleasant. The RedHawks would fall behind, two sets to one, but would come back and capture the fourth set, 25-21. Miami would trail, 12-13, late in the fifth set before coming back to take the final three points to earn a 15-13 win and advance in the tournament. Amy Raseman led the Red and White with 16 kills, while Madison Hardy had a career-high 29 digs in that contest.
