OXFORD, Ohio-Redshirt freshman middle hitter Lauren Slusser (Columbus Grove, Ohio/Columbus Grove) was named to the six-member Mid-American Conference Volleyball All-Freshman Team, the conference office announced Wednesday (Nov. 19). Slusser becomes just the second RedHawk to earn all-Freshman team laurels since the award was instituted in 1997. Senior middle hitter Susan Poll earned the accolade in 2000.
Slusser leads the RedHawks in blocks, averaging 0.78 blocks per game. She owns a team-best 81 block assists and ranks second on the team in hitting percentage (.236) and third in kills per game (2.32). Over the last seven matches, she averaged 3.29 kills and 0.96 blocks per game while posting a solid .381 hitting percentage.
She is joined on the all-freshman team by Michaele Blackburn (Ohio), Kelly Cochran (Ball State), Kate McCullagh (Northern Illinois), Meghan Moore (Central Michigan) and Nicole Morzenti (Buffalo).
Miami (10-22; 4-12 MAC) ends its season at Wake Forest on Saturday, Nov. 29 in a 4 p.m. tilt.
