Columbia, S.C. —The RedHawks lost their season opener against #25 South Carolina on Friday. The RedHawks (0-1) struck first early in the 5-1 loss before giving up five runs to South Carolina (1-0) during the second inning.

Miami continues its three game series against #25 South Carolina tomorrow. First pitch is set for 12p.m. ET.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Zach MacDonald was hit by a pitch and Anthony Zarlingo hit a single in the top of the first inning, Ryland Zaborowski grounded into a double play, allowing MacDonald to come home and score. This put the RedHawks ahead 1-0.
- South Carolina was held scoreless through one but bounced back with five runs in the second inning.
- Patrick Mastrian IV, Luke Ross and Carson Byers held the Gamecocks scoreless in innings three through eight.
- During the top of the ninth, Evan Applewick led off with a single. MacDonald followed suit, sending Applewick to third and Ryland Zaborowski walked to load the bases for Miami before a groundout cut their rally effort short.
MIAMI GAME NOTES
- David Novak opened his season going 2-for-4.
- Luke Ross allowed just one hit during his three innings on the mound.
